October is cancer awareness month in Iceland. We had to think up a new way to promote the Pink ribbon. So we took to the streets, and with good help painted the biggest pink ribbon in the world. Every year in March there is a cancer awareness program in Iceland aimed at men called "Mottumars", similar to the "Movember" month. This year a stellar cast of Icelandic actors dance their asses off to promote colon cancer awareness. An Icelandic tourism body has parodied Mark Zuckerberg’s metaverse announcement in a promotional video for the country. In the two-minute film, Zuck lookalike ‘Zack Mossbergsson’ pokes fun at Facebook’s Meta rebrand by introducing the ‘Icelandverse.’ Mimicking Zuckerberg’s hand gestures and stifled speech, Mossebergsson introduces his “revolutionary approach on how to connect our world – without being super weird.” Visiting Iceland is “enhanced reality without the silly headsets,” he says. The video touts the country’s “water that’s wet" and “skies you can see with your eyeballs.” The clip directly mocks Zuckerberg’s claim the metaverse has “the feeling of presence ... like you’re there with other people,” by instead featuring another human with which to “connect with.”

Mottumars (Moustache–March) is a yearly cancer awareness campaign for the Icelandic Cancer Society, mainly focusing on cancers in men. The 2018 campaign is about prostate cancer, which is the most common cancer amongst Icelandic men. The look and feel of the campaign draws inspiration from a predominantly male trope: the classic barber shop, a place frequented by men throughout the years. In the television advertisement we see a man go about his daily routine. He is obviously troubled by something, and is most likely experiencing symptoms of prostate cancer. Mentally and physically exhausting symptoms of a life threatening illness are not easy to ignore. Especially not when they – literally – come to life in the shape of a cheery and colorful barber shop quartet that constantly follows you around describing the symptoms of prostate cancer — through song and dance, of course.
