Beer ads have a long history of showing guys enjoying a brew, often at the expense of everything else. Spouses, commitments and those less worthy have often been fodder for blokey heroes who earn their beer through some feat of strength, cunning, comedy or a combination of the three. The decision to get away from those well-worn tropes provided an opportunity for Speight's, which has launched a new brand campaign headlined by an unexpectedly heartwarming spot titled 'The Dance' created by DDB New Zealand. A two-minute epic follows the story of two workmates who seem to be teaching each other to dance. We meet their wider group of mates, who stay after work to offer unsought critique. Mastering dancing quickly becomes their group project, and they approach it with the same laconic attitude you'd expect at Thursday night training for the 3rd-division social footy team. To mark the launch of the new look New Zealand Herald the paper wanted to celebrate the important role it has played throughout the country’s history. DraftFCB Auckland took this insight and came up with a world first way of executing it. With help from the crew at Assembly the entire ad was printed on giant rolls of newsprint and animated on the NZ Herald's 50 million dollar printing press. Despite what the competition say, all power’s the same, none of it is super. While they all dress it up and try and pretend it’s different, or flog you something else as well to make you think you’ve got a deal, but you don’t. Energy Online tell it how it is and deliver what people want. Which is this case is just energy, at a fair price, that’s easy to get. That’s not what most in the market are up to, so we decided it was time to call BS, cause power just isn’t super. This stunt, the first of three in our campaign, was created using real people. Over a month they were screened and tested, so they arrived at our ‘Energy Online sponsored University technology prototype test,’ believing they were on the brink of creating history. Instead, they helped prove a point – power, is power, is power, it’s all the same. But it can be brilliantly simple. To promote the 4th season premiere of Game of Thrones on premium SKY TV cable channel SoHo, we wanted to demonstrate we were just as fanatical about good programming as the fans who watched it. So we gave them the one thing they all wanted - the chance to bring down King Joffrey. We erected a 7m statue of the King in NZ’s largest public square, then invited fans worldwide to bring him down via a massive winch that was activated every time the hashtag #bringdowntheking was used on Twitter. The stunt immediately trended on Twitter, and stayed trending the entire duration of the campaign. Thousands of photos and videos were shared online by those who came to see the statue, and our own daily videos garnered hundreds of thousands of views. By the 5th day the winch had the statue at breaking point. Thousands of fans gathered for hours leading up to the moment, tweeting and watching, while those overseas could watch the whole thing via our live streaming website. Finally, at around 6pm on the night of the premiere, after 875,000 direct interactions with our campaign and a global reach of 66 million people, the statue was brought down. The campaign was the largest live stream in Australasian history, and of all conversations about Game of Thrones worldwide on the night of the premiere, one in twenty was about #bringdowntheking, and SKY TV. Following the launch of ‘Little can be huge’ earlier in August, Spark have come out with the first of many stories extending moments from their launch ad with the help of Colenso BBDO. Dubbed ‘Celebrate Family’, the film is an emotional take on Spark’s ‘Little can be huge’ platform. Colenso CCO, Levi Slavin, says it’s a story about how a little thought, a little online research, and a little effort can make all the difference in the world. The film tells the story of a single mum and her 10-year-old boy in the weeks leading up to Father’s Day. Mum does her best not to show it, but we can tell that this is a particularly difficult time of year.
