Mitoys is a cultural startup that wants to connect the new generation through design and technology with paraguayan culture. With Mitoys, we recreate the mystical stories about the paraguayan myths. Indigenous art was our inspiration to create the identity of the project. We designed the stories of guarani myths with the Mby’a Guarani Community from the Paraguayan Chaco. The process was 100% handmade. We simply used paper and black ballpoint pen to create the artistic work and typographies. The principal challenge was to stand out during the World Cup 2010 Season with a very low budget. The objective was to create free press by highlighting the brand and making it possible to reach everybody’s attention. Our strategy was to fuse both things men love the most: Soccer and Women. So we created the “sexiest billboard” to appeal to men. We got amazing results, as we were able to get everybody's attention on our brand, generating millions and millions of dollars in free press. Paraguay has been topping the ranking of most corrupt countries in the region (source: International Transparency). Cases of abuse of position can be observed daily. The most outrageous is that involving Representative J. Ibáñez who despite having confessed the crimes of corruption hoped to evade justice and being charged. "Robert" is the most iconic tailor shop in the country and well-known for dressing the main political leaders, but also for its social commitment (its motto speaks of making honesty fashionable). So it decided to take advantage of this context and send a message of repudiation that helped raise citizen awareness. Paraguay is going through a serious situation regarding deforestation in one of the largest forest reserves in the world. According to a recent report by NASA, the region has one of the highest rates of deforestation in the world, observations from the Landsat satellites indicate that 20% of the Gran Chaco forest have been converted to cropland or pasture since 1985. That is an extension of the size of the state of New York. Alarmed by this situation, from the newspaper 5dias we wanted to express our disagreement about what was happening and we also wanted to insist to the people who keep claiming what belongs to everyone, the air. That's why on June 19 National Tree Day, we publish a special edition of our newspaper with 20% of our pages deforested. 62% of paraguayans tend to ignore their own culture. And the figure is even higher among young people. “Recuerdo de Ypacarai”, the most famous guarania song in the world, turned 70 years old in 2019. Guarania is a musical genre created in Paraguay. This anniversary was an opportunity to reconnect Paraguayans with their culture. “Paseo del Recuerdo” is a musical installation that allows anyone to play the notes of “Recuerdos de Ypacarai”, just by passing the palm of the hand over the keys. This is a permanent installation made by artist Fernando Ambere Feliciangeli donated to the city of San Bernardino, Paraguay.
