You've probably seen the 'boyfriend chair' in clothing stores for bored shopping companions. Now IKEA has taken the concept one step further by creating a “crèche” for retail-weary men, complete with Xbox consoles, pinball machines, continuous televised sport and free hot dogs. MÄNLAND is being trialled for four days this Father's Day weekend [Sept 2 in Aus.] as a male-only play space to hang out in while wives and girlfriends peruse the aisles. Publicity manager Jude Leon said the idea was modelled on the Swedish furniture giant’s existing child play area, SMALAND. Ms Leon said women were given a buzzer to remind them to collect their other half after 30 minutes of shopping. Most symptoms of multiple sclerosis go unnoticed by everyone except the person living with them. One day they can alter your memory, the next your vision. Striking without warning and leaving no trace, they are invisible. Seeing MS is a global photographic project to visualise the invisible symptoms of multiple sclerosis. Grey Melbourne invited nine photographers to depict each symptom in a single image, inspired by stories of those touched by the disease. With the Seeing MS app, everyone with a camera can uncover the unseen. Photo filters based on each symptom will allow you to see and share how MS affects those living with this mysterious and debilitating condition. This film travels around the city of Brisbane to bring the most obscure and intriguing stories back to the Museum. It does this via a bicycle that’s equipped with 256 ultra-bright LEDs on each wheel. At speed, the LEDs blend to show a video animation and the wheels become a lens to the past. For example, a Bengal tiger named Jimmy who chased a man along Turbot Street in 1888. Or Australia’s first experimental TV broadcast that took place from a windmill on Wickham Terrace. But really, they’re just a tease to visit the Museum of Brisbane and find out more.
