When MasterCard Canada started the search for their 2013 interns, they wanted applicants to share their vision of how much better a cashless world could be. By showcasing common cash related problems in a futuristic context, these videos were created to inspire and drive applicants to enter at the MasterCard #Internswanted Facebook page. Coming out can be difficult and complicated, and it’s not something most cis-gendered, heterosexual Canadians have insight into. According to a recent study from Egale Canada, over 80% of LGBTQ+ individuals have felt distress related to their sexual orientation or gender identity, and 54% haven’t come out to their colleagues for fear of being rejected or bullied. To bring attention to this issue, we created a film made entirely of user submitted footage that looks like it’s speaking to the challenges of the Covid-19 pandemic. But in reality, it highlights the emotional struggles we’ve all had during the COVID-19 quarantine, in order to show its parallel with the much more challenging isolation LGBTQ+ people go through when they can’t come out as who they are. The Air Canada Foundation helps sick children living in remote areas reach the medical care they need by flying them to hospitals outside of their hometowns. To share Keisha's experience − a story of bi-weekly flights between New Brunswick and Montreal − we decided to contrast it with the experiences of other travelers. As a backdrop, we used the architecture of an airport as a screen to project travelers' memories, including Keisha's, as this space is the starting point for their adventures. Keisha's story is one of strength and hope, showing us the more profound and ultimately more inspiring side of travel.
