Paraguay is going through a serious situation regarding deforestation in one of the largest forest reserves in the world. According to a recent report by NASA, the region has one of the highest rates of deforestation in the world, observations from the Landsat satellites indicate that 20% of the Gran Chaco forest have been converted to cropland or pasture since 1985. That is an extension of the size of the state of New York.
