Our mission was to ignite the competitive spirit of Scrabble players across the Gulf. We knew that Scrabble was huge online. So we went to where the Scrabble enthusiasts play, hijacked an irritating online convention, and transformed it into something unexpected. Battle Captcha doesn’t make you type in gibberesh to verify you're human. Instead, it challenges you to prove you’re more than human – by unscrambling different letters and demonstrating that you’ve got the power of WORDS. For São Paulo’s 17th International Contemporary Art Festival, we created an online tool for people to escape from their virtual routines, that habit of checking out thousands of times the same websites every day. By logging on to www.botaodeescape.com it is possible to install this escape button by dragging the escape icon onto the toolbar of the browser. When clicked, it takes you, randomly, to several different websites, articles, images and videos recommended by the festival’s artists, including special guest Olafur Eliasson. What does a world-class New Jersey cancer center do when it wants to elevate itself onto the same platform as NCI (National Cancer Institute) accredited cancer centers? The John Theurer Cancer Center first turned to purpose-driven NYC boutique agency Leijas to solidify their messaging and approach. The agency didn’t simply start with JTCC’s cutting-edge innovation and advancements in technology. Rather, they focused on JTCC’s unique philosophy that includes the expertise of over 1,200 sub specialized leaders in the field of oncology. And what they learned was that it all boils down to patients. But JTCC treats cancer much differently, in three distinct and tangible ways – with optimism sparking resilience of the human spirit, the expertise of world-renowned specialists, and personal care and compassion. This combination of heart and science led to the value proposition “pushing science and innovation to heal the human body and spirit.” The approach was to truly connect with the patients and allow them to be the brand voice throughout the communication effort. Leijas spent several weeks working closely with the cancer center leadership to identify “hero patients” and to understand the unique elements of JTCC and the campaign strategy. Leijas then got to know the patients and their families – not just the cancer they beat, but diving into their stories and into their hearts, reliving their journeys - often revealing their vulnerabilities. The strategy became not defining each patient by their disease, but rather highlighting them as individuals. The goal of the campaign from JTCC, which breaks this month, is to raise awareness of JTCC – it’s unique approach to treating cancer told through the successful treatment of these four patients. Unlike all-too-common hospital advertising, the work invites a deeply personal element as well a genuine element of hope, and inspiration. The campaign’s goal is to build the center’s awareness and reputation, runs through the end of December and includes: four documentary-style videos, website, print, digital, billboard, radio and social media. The 360-degree media planning and buying was handled by media agency SPM, Chicago. Content advertisement created by Leijas, United States for John Theurer Cancer Center, within the category: Health.

Beer ads have a long history of showing guys enjoying a brew, often at the expense of everything else. Spouses, commitments and those less worthy have often been fodder for blokey heroes who earn their beer through some feat of strength, cunning, comedy or a combination of the three. The decision to get away from those well-worn tropes provided an opportunity for Speight's, which has launched a new brand campaign headlined by an unexpectedly heartwarming spot titled 'The Dance' created by DDB New Zealand. A two-minute epic follows the story of two workmates who seem to be teaching each other to dance. We meet their wider group of mates, who stay after work to offer unsought critique. Mastering dancing quickly becomes their group project, and they approach it with the same laconic attitude you'd expect at Thursday night training for the 3rd-division social footy team. Film advertisement created by DDB, New Zealand for Speight's, within the category: Alcoholic Drinks.

The Internet Remembers is a campaign developed to encourage young Australian drinkers to adopt a responsible attitude towards alcohol. The campaign takes the form of an interactive AR gallery revealing the most “unsophisticated” moments from the internet coming back to life. The campaign launches via a public art exhibition consisting of five stone plinths touring multiple nightlife destinations, with each plinth containing a surprising augmented reality experience. Once the digital experience is activated, a bronze statue depicting an embarrassing drunken situation appears on the mobile screen, with a voiceover narrating the story - much like those that feature in art galleries across the globe. The campaign serves as a reminder to young drinkers that once their drunken antics are uploaded online they are there for ever. For their hangover may only last a day but their reputation could be ruined for ever. Integrated advertisement created by BBDO, Australia for DrinkWise, within the category: Public Interest, NGO.
