The Australian Capital Territory parliament passed a bill in October 2013 that made the territory the first part of Australia to legalize marriage equality. In Canberra, 31 couples were married over a five-day period once the law went into effect, from December 7-12, 2013. But the national government challenged the decision, saying it was inconsistent with Australian federal laws. And Australia's High Court overturned the legislation making all the couples' unions invalid. We harvested the energy from the footsteps of the 25,000+ people entering and exiting the Santiago de Chile international marathon. This energy was stored in a battery and used to project motivational messages that were displayed to the runners in the 39th kilometer of the race. The messages were synchronized with the unique chip numbers of every runner, allowing friends and family to personalize messages of encouragement. Created by iris in collaboration with Pavegen, the installation generated enough energy to display messages for six hours – allowing adidas to give every marathon runner a ‘Boost’ in their final strides. The installation is a creative vehicle inspired by the technology of adidas’ latest flagship running shoe, energy Boost™. Made of a unique material that is significantly more effective at absorbing and returning energy than traditional EVA materials, Boost™ claims to make runners more efficient. The initiative celebrates the tradition behind Jim Beam and uses advanced 3-D mapping technology, lighting, sound, shadows and animation to showcase the Beam legacy. When viewed in person at Jim Beam’s flagship distillery in Clermont, Kentucky, the video reveals a dynamic 3-D illumination against a rackhouse which houses more than 24,000 barrels of aging whiskey.
