In July 2020, Vladimir Putin changed the Russian constitution to ban same-sex marriage with an amendment that explicitly defines marriage as between a man and woman. 77% of the country’s population supported the change. At the same time, Gay Propaganda law passed in 2013 actively functions in Russia. It notoriously criminalises representations of LGBTQIA+ community and their relationships, supposedly to protect children from being exposed to homosexuality. It has also encouraged a wave of hate crimes including beatings, rape and torture that continue to this day. One year on from the constitutional change, the film ‘We Will Become Better has been released in order to challenge these offensive, narrow portrayals of same-sex relationship with a simple message: ‘Love is everyone’s right’. This is the first Russian LGBTQIA+ film in years that actually portrays a gay relationship and the country’s first anti-homophobic project aimed at decreasing the amount of hatred towards the community. It’s been 70 years since a British dignitary let alone British Royalty has visited in Israel. By Israeli standards this is a wonderful opportunity for celebration and an even better one for brands to give the young prince a royal welcome ‘Israeli style’. That is why Super-Pharm, Israel’s largest drugstore chain, working together with BBR Saatchi & Saatchi advertising bought up a huge billboard space at the entrance to Jerusalem along the Prince’s schedule journey into the capital. The billboard meant for the fair skinned and slightly balding young royal, tells him that the London sun is nothing compared to the scorching Israeli sun and kindly nudges the prince on to buy and apply Life Sunscreen. But while the billboard’s message seems mostly straightforward and innocent, it of course could not refrain from poking a little fun and derision at the “Sun” British Daily Newspaper known for grilling the royal family any occasion it gets. After 20 years in business, Toronto advertising agency Gee, Jeffery & Partners is closing its doors. To mark the occasion, they are having a Closing Down Liquidation Fire Sale on Thursday, November 18, with all proceeds going to Jake’s House for children with autism. “For 20 years GJP has been making advertising history and now GJP is history.” Says Alan Gee, Chairman, GJP. “It’s been a heck of a ride.” To go out in pure ad-style, GJP has produced a campaign, their last, promoting their closing and the sale.
