As we follow our couple on their final stop of the evening—after a very busy Christmas Day together visiting family, they find themselves finally having a moment alone as they walk down the street, it is then when he gives her his gift. Whilst this scene is rolling, we cut multiple times to past scenes leading up to this point. Simultaneously throughout the scenes, a monologue speech is playing – the protagonist citing all the things he loves about his partner. We follow him as secretly attempts to learn to the one thing she loves most... He learns to dance. We also use these cut scenes to show their love, with little indications of their relationship and history. We then begin to understand his caring motives as we learn about his partner’s history and relationship with dance. He is learning so that he can re-ignite her passion and enjoyment for something she feels she no longer has time for. Ultimately, his gift is to show how well he knows her and much she means to him. In a time when we feel pressure to buy everything, our protagonist has chosen to take their time and create something of more worth — to valuing; craft and care over an easier, but ultimately empty, gesture. His gift is not just a panicked soulless purchase—his time is a metaphor for the careful production, care and dedication that Dents have held since the beginning. The film features, albeit subtly—the Dents brand (gloves, hats, scarfs et al) without following the status-quo of a brash and ugly selling pitch of products. Beautifully shot scenes coupled with the composed score, create an engaging and emotional storyline—capturing a ‘Dents couple’, their relationship, values and the quintessential British Christmas experience. Making the film is relatable to real life. However; with a generous sprinkling of magic; helping capture the nostalgic, romantic feeling that surrounds us at Christmas time. The aim of the film is to connect and to cause conversation; creating a dialogue with customers old and new. We want to talk about and celebrate the effort of giving gifts that require a little more thought — and choosing quality over quantity. We modeled and animated a miniature world prototype of trading utilizing a top view of blocks and buildings, which represent different companies. The difficult part was to recreate the specific essence of every business so that the viewer would recognize the company at a glance. Our main goal was to enable viewers to discover a new detail every time they would rewatch the ad. The edit of the video posed a challenge because we wanted to have an engaging visual stimulation and at the same time keep the flow smooth. Furthermore, we experimented with the transition from an isometric landscape into a flat one to demonstrate the functionalities of the mobile interface. Danny MacAskill, the Scottish trials cyclist and star of multiple YouTube smash-hit viral films such as Red Bull’s Imaginate, shows off his amazing skills in a new brand film for adidas Outdoor, created by Cut Media. It launches on Danny’s Youtube channel on Tuesday 4th June to celebrate his new brand partnership with adidas Outdoor. At three and a half minutes, the film shows Danny performing a series of incredible tricks demonstrating both his imaginative approach to his riding and his unparalleled skills. Appearing to be self-filmed, the spot opens with Danny setting up a shot with a beautiful Scottish harbour as a backdrop. The film takes us through a series of locations as the athlete uses local landmarks and the epic wilderness of the Highlands to do some amazing riding. We also see some shots where Danny fails to land a line, giving the film humour and an authentic feel. The style of the film is very straightforward. There are no gimmicks or dynamic camera shots, just clean, well-composed frames with beautiful backdrops. This filming technique was used to align with adidas’ ‘Here to Create’ campaign, and to highlight Danny’s position as a creative athlete, who demonstrates his skills through film instead of competing in events. The film represents a continuation of Cut Media’s long-standing relationship with Danny, including Imaginate and Wee Day Out for Red Bull, and it is also the fourth campaign the creative agency has worked on with adidas. Cut Media previously collaborated with adidas on the Claim Freedom documentary, the Two BOA shoe launch and the Mountain Project. It was filmed on location in the coastal village of Dunbar and Glencoe in the Highlands, to the soundtrack of ‘The Wind that Cried The World’ by the Phantom Band.
