It’s a sad fact that in 2021, New Zealand’s LGBTQIA+ communities have worse health outcomes than their peers in several different areas including mental health and HIV transmission. So, to mark International Pride month in June, the New Zealand AIDS Foundation (NZAF) is challenging people to ‘Sweat with Pride’ by exercising for at least 21 minutes a day to get active and raise money to support the Rainbow community. To help with this, NZAF has engaged the services of three ‘Perspirational Trainers’, fronted by some of the LGBTQIA+ community’s most fabulous drag artists. Upon signing up to the Sweat with Pride challenge, supporters choose a trainer, then the work (and fun!) begins. Carmen, Tilda and Jim will encourage, motivate and cheerlead supporters through their sweaty fundraising efforts throughout the month of June, with the goal of raising as much money as possible for Rainbow communities. Two boys build a mysterious contraption out of bicycle parts, a rubber chicken, and a whole lot of duct tape. They run around the neighborhood to find more parts and head home to complete what is looking like a DIY X-wing. When another friend comes into the picture, we find out what they’ve actually built – a homemade 4D experience. With the Star Wars trailer on TV, the boys tinker with their masterpiece so water splashes, confetti explode, and phones vibrate. Catching their breath after the rollercoaster of a show, the two boys hand-sign to their friend, “Did you like it?” and we discover that their friend is deaf. Out of creativity, determination and love, the two more than made up for what their friend can’t hear, making her experience of Star Wars all the more wonderful. Travel comparison website, TravelSupermarket launched a competition before Christmas to win, not only an all-expenses paid, seven night, winter sun holiday to Jamaica, but also a ‘professional clone’ to cover the successful entrant’s job for a week! To be in with a chance of winning, entrants had to tweet a photograph of themselves showing how much they needed some winter sun, using the hashtag #HolidayDouble. Just a few weeks after submitting her photograph, for lucky winner Jenna Osborne, 28, an exec from London, the dream of sunnier climes came true. Whilst Jenna enjoyed a couple of cheeky cocktails by the pool in 28 degrees Jamaica, TravelSupermarket provided her employer with an (almost) physically identical #HolidayDouble.
